Shrewsbury Weekend - Feb 2010

And so it was Valentine's weekand and we decided that after hearing a lot about Shrewsbury in Shropshire we thought that it was time to visit. Little did we know that at the time it was also Darwin's birthday which was being celebrated by many of the visitors to Shrewsbury due to the fact that he was born in Shrewsbury. We weren't participating in the celebrations but loved wandering through this beautiful town with the river that runs around it and a beautiful park in the middle. We found a lovely old hotel called the Prince Rupert to stay in. Very oldy worldy and lots of fun! There were loads of beautiful old leaning over buildings that looked like they would fall over if the wind blew too strongly. There was a variety of gorgeous furniture shops which we wandered through planning what we would buy to put in our one-day mansion :)

We even had the opportunity to stumble across the house of John Wesley - very interesting!

We had a lovely stroll along the river in the winter sunshine. The town is beautiful with the river that weaves through it with bridges at points where you can cross from one side to the other.

From the river meander it was onto exploring the beautiful park which thay have in the middle of Shrewsbury. There is a massive space to wander around and then all these little manicured bits where one can hide away if they felt so inclined.

How's this for a library? And so folks that brought a great exploring weekend to an end. Another 'venture for the van der Watt's :)
